Upon learning about the AIYEP experience, the counterpart system first seemed a bit peculiar. Why should fully grown adults have to do everything with a buddy, including sleeping in the same bed? However, after less than a week in Indonesia, I could already see that having a counterpart that you can rely upon, trust and share experiences with is one of the highlights of AIYEP.  Read more...

For the third time in less than a year I have found myself in Indonesia, but unlike other visits, I have noticed the integral role sinetron plays in the everyday life of Indonesians. As integral as the concept of 'Makan lagi', Sinetron is short for 'sinema electronik' and makes up an arguably unhealthy 25% of Indonesia's giant TV industry.   Read more...

A Very AIYEP Christmas

Christmas Day for the AIYEP team in the village of Tanah Beru certainly started in a unique way. Instead of Christmas carols, it was the sound of adzan that rang through the early morning air, waking us to enjoy a classic South Sulawesi breakfast of fish and rice, followed by a refreshing splash from the bak mani!  Read more...
